Fall is a great time to get off campus and explore Oxford and the surrounding area.
Whether your college student is looking for a pumpkin patch, corn maze, apple picking, fall festival, or just an excuse to spend an afternoon outside with friends, there are plenty of options within an easy drive of Miami University.
Here are a few fall activities worth checking out around Oxford, Ohio.
Start Close to Campus
Students don't necessarily need to plan a full day trip to enjoy fall around Miami.
OXtoberfest
OXtoberfest brings a fall festival atmosphere right to Uptown Oxford.
The 2026 event is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, from 1 to 8 p.m. in the Uptown Parks at Main and High streets. The festival includes live music, seasonal food, local vendors, craft beverages, activities, and stein-holding competitions.
Since it is right in Oxford, this is an especially easy option for students who don't have a car.
Hueston Woods State Park
Hueston Woods is close enough to campus for an easy afternoon away.
Students can hike, walk the trails, have a picnic, or simply head out to enjoy the fall colors. It is also an easy activity to pair with one of the seasonal events held at the park.
Apple Butter Festival at Hueston Woods
The annual Apple Butter Festival at Doty Pioneer Farm is another easy fall outing near Miami.
Scheduled for October 17 and 18 in 2026, the festival includes traditional apple butter making, cider, pumpkins, fall foods, vendors, pioneer demonstrations, and activities around the historic farm.
This could easily become a full fall afternoon with a walk or hike at Hueston Woods before or after the festival.
Butterfields Farm Market
Butterfields Farm Market is located just outside Oxford on Trenton Oxford Road.
The farm offers seasonal produce and fall activities that have included a corn maze and sunflower field.
Because farm activities and crop conditions can change throughout the season, check current hours and availability before heading over.
Pumpkin Patches and Corn Mazes
There are several good options within driving distance of campus for students who want the classic fall outing.
Niederman Family Farm
Niederman Family Farm in Liberty Township offers one of the larger fall festivals in the area.
The 2026 Fall Festival runs Thursday through Sunday from September 25 through November 1.
Activities include a corn maze, pumpkin picking, tractor rides, farm animals, outdoor games, and plenty of fall food.
Some attractions are geared toward younger visitors, but the large corn maze, pumpkin patch, evening hours, and food make it a fun option for a group of college friends too.
Brown's Family Farm Market
Brown's Family Farm Market in Hamilton is another easy option for pumpkins and fall activities.
Fall weekends typically include u-pick pumpkins, hayrides, a corn maze, seasonal treats, and other activities.
One nice feature is that students can visit the farm market without committing to a full day of ticketed attractions.
Burwinkel Farms
Burwinkel Farms in Ross turns its farm market into a fall destination each year.
Fall activities include two corn mazes, a Halloween scavenger hunt, sunflower walking paths, pick-your-own pumpkins, and weekend hayrides.
The market also carries homegrown apples, apple cider, baked goods, pumpkins, gourds, mums, and other seasonal items.
For students looking for fall photos with friends, the sunflower paths and pumpkin fields may be reason enough to go.
Apple Picking and Orchards
Apple picking can be a fun change from the usual pumpkin patch, especially earlier in the fall.
Keep in mind that u-pick dates depend heavily on weather and crop availability, so always check before making the drive.
Irons Fruit Farm
Irons Fruit Farm in Lebanon is one of the better options in the area for traditional apple picking.
U-pick dates vary throughout the season depending on which apples are ready. The farm also sells fresh cider, cider donuts, fritters, baked goods, jams, apple butter, and other seasonal treats.
Irons recommends checking its current updates before visiting because apple availability can change quickly.
Hidden Valley Orchards
Hidden Valley Orchards in Lebanon is a good choice for students who want more than just apple picking.
The orchard has a farm market, bakery, food, seasonal drinks, outdoor gathering areas, and a full schedule of fall events.
Its 2026 calendar includes a Fall Craft Fair in September and a Pumpkin Celebration October 10 and 11. Fall activities also include pumpkins and other seasonal farm attractions.
General admission to the farm is free, with some activities and packages available separately.
This one works especially well for a group that wants to spend a few hours hanging out rather than rushing through one activity.

Not every outing needs to revolve around a pumpkin patch.
